Electronic Purple Martin Prognosticator (EPMP)- Current Version 1.5.3 (released 7/14/06)

Download XLS (Excel Spreadsheet format - file size about 4814 kb)

Download ZIP (Zip compressed Excel Spreadsheet format - file size about 1088 kb)

Version 1.5.3 corrects some minor statistical errors on the Summary Page, some minor formula errors on the Detailed Statistics page, and now tracks number of pairs at the colony each year plus enhanced the email instructions when reporting to martin organizations.

Background
The Electronic Purple Martin Prognosticator was developed by me as an additional method for martin landlords to maintain accurate records of their colonies from year to year and to monitor trends in the colony.  It was developed in Excel 97 spreadsheet format so it should be upward compatible with newer versions of Excel.   I have not tested it with other spreadsheet type programs (OpenOffice, 602 Pro PC Suite, and Easy Office are 3 free alternatives that contain spreadsheets), but would be interested in its compatibility if anyone does try them. The format is patterned after the original Prognosticator developed by Mr. Ed Donath and is dedicated on his behalf.
Instructions for Use:
  1. Download the file in the format of your choice.  If you download the zip file you will need a Zip Program to extract the file (there are number of good free ones available).  If left clicking on the button does not work in your browser try right clicking and selecting "save target as" and downloading it to the directory you prefer.
  2. The spreadsheet comes populated with data for the years 2002 and 2003 to give you an idea of how to enter data and to see some of the reports and tables.  You should delete the data after reviewing it.  Critical areas of the spreadsheet are protected and cannot be erased accidentally.  In general, cells in white are for data entry and are unprotected.  Colored cells usually contain formulas and cannot be erased or modified.
  3. When you open the spreadsheet in your program you will arrive at the Summary Page.  From there you can go to the Instructions Page, the Graph Averages Per Year, and Individual Years by clicking on the blue hyperlinks in the Year column of the table or by clicking on the appropriate tabs at the bottom of the page.  Years 2002 thru 2012 can be accommodated at the present time.  Any letters in blue with a line underneath them are hyperlinks to other areas of the spreadsheet.  More detailed instructions are present on the 'Instructions' page.
  4. This software is provided free of charge.  If you find any bugs or would like to request new features or have ideas for improving it please e-mail me.  I hope you enjoy the spreadsheet and find it useful.
